The Staycation Summer

Prices are going up. That means a lot of people might take vacations off their calendars. But there’s no reason you shouldn’t take time off. Keep those days off and plan a staycation instead!

Camping plans? There’s no reason you can’t do that in your own backyard! Set up the tent, roast marshmallows over the fire, and tell scary stories. Apartment dweller? Set your tent up inside, turn the lights off and disconnect the Wi-Fi. Open all the windows and play nature sounds in the background.

What about hiking? We bet you can find a walking path or hiking trail within a half an hour of your house. If not, there’s no reason you can’t take an urban hike right in your neighborhood and beyond. Challenge yourself to walk areas you haven’t, to stop and look at flowers, and even get a little lost.

Canceled museum plans? Find one close by! Even small towns have museums, and they may not challenge the Met, but they can be a fun way to spend the day. If you can’t, tune into a virtual gallery or museum tour online. YouTube can take you almost anywhere you’d like to go.

Are you a bit sports fan? Go watch a high school team or a local league. You’ll be surprised how much fun you have even when you don’t know either team. Pros don’t have all the fun.

Other ideas for a staycation? At-home spa day, a night at a local hotel to spend the day at the pool, a day of dining out at new places, or walking through new neighborhoods. Try to make an experience out of your town. We think you’ll find something fun you’ve never thought of before!
