Massachusetts became the sixth state on February 6, 1788. 

It was given the nickname of The Bay State.

Massachusetts state motto is: “Ense Petit Placidam Sub Libertate Quietem” which translate to “By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty.”

State Flower is the Mayflower (Trailing arbutus).

Massachusetts state bird is the Black Capped Chickadee.

Boston was the first capitol in the U.S.

Massachusetts is the leading cranberry producing state in the U.S.

The first Subway System was built in Boston in 1897.
